Roshangar Undergraduate Persian Studies Journal
From the Editor in Chief,
Dear Readers of Roshangar,
I am delighted to welcome you to the latest edition of our journal, featuring its first online issue. As the Editor-in-Chief, I am immensely proud to present this collection of essays and features that reflect the passion and dedication of our students.
In these online pages, you will find thought-provoking insights about contemporary Iranian film and theatre at the intersection of gender dynamics, politics, and aesthetics. Our mission is to inform and engage you, our valued readers, in the field of Iranian performing arts studies, and we hope this issue accomplishes just that.
The essays featured in this collection were authored by our best and brightest undergraduate students enrolled in two courses offered by Roshan Institute for Persian Studies: “Iranian Cinema” and “Art Activism” during Fall 2022, at the time when the Woman, Life, Freedom Movement was just gaining momentum. While they do not directly address the movement, they offer compelling instances and narratives that shed light on the diverse and unwavering efforts of Iranian artists in advocating for change over recent decades.
In our upcoming issue of Roshangar, I anticipate including essays from our current undergraduate students that delve into the evolving visions and ventures of the Woman, Life, Freedom Movement. Regardless of the topic or whether published in the past, now or in the future, our students’ works continually inspire us with their dedication and insight.
I am very delighted to share this source of inspiration with you in the current edition.
Your feedback is crucial to us, and we always appreciate hearing from you to grow and improve. Please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas as we continue to strive for excellence in every publication. Thank you for choosing us as your source of information and inspiration. We look forward to bringing you more engaging content in the future.
Warm regards,
